Cheaper Home Batteries Program
A demand-side incentive applied directly at point of sale by your CEC-accredited installer. No paperwork, no waiting — the discount comes straight off your invoice.
State & territory incentives
The federal rebate applies in every state and territory. Many states also offer their own stacking incentives — meaning you can double up and save even more.
The Solar Victoria Battery Loan offers interest-free loans up to $8,800 for eligible households. Stacks with the federal program. The Solar Homes Battery Rebate provides up to $2,950 for households with existing solar. Income limits and eligibility criteria apply.
NSW relies primarily on the federal scheme. The Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS) provides ongoing bill credits for VPP-connected batteries. Some energy retailers offer bonus VPP incentives up to $1,000 on top of federal savings.
The Queensland Battery Booster program provides a $3,000 rebate for eligible low-income households. Standard homeowners access the federal scheme. CleanCo operates a VPP with ongoing credits for enrolled batteries.
SA's Home Battery Scheme (subsidised loans via the Clean Energy Finance Corp) stacks with the federal program. SA has the most competitive electricity pricing and VPP market in Australia — excellent ROI for battery owners.
WA currently relies on the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program. The Synergy RetailCo offers some VPP trial incentives. No state-specific battery rebate as at 2026 — but the federal savings still apply.
Sustainable Household Scheme offers interest-free loans for batteries through Brighte. Stacks with the federal program. The ACT grid is 100% renewable — battery owners benefit from time-of-use tariff arbitrage.
TasNetworks operates a hybrid grid with high hydro penetration. Tasmania relies on the federal program with no active state battery rebate. Solar battery economics are improving as export tariffs change.
NT's Power and Water Corporation has specific off-grid and remote battery incentives. High solar irradiance makes batteries especially compelling. Check with your local CEC installer for current NT-specific programs.
Can you stack federal and state rebates?
Yes — in most cases. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program is designed to stack with existing state incentives. Victoria and South Australia offer the best combined savings. Always confirm eligibility with a CEC-accredited installer before purchasing.
